Traditional post-meal jaggery activates digestive enzymes and prevents constipation.
Jaggery cleanses the respiratory tract, lungs, stomach, intestines, and liver naturally.
High iron content (11mg/100g) makes jaggery the most effective food-based iron source.
Complex sugars in jaggery release energy slowly – no blood sugar crash unlike white sugar.
Calcium and phosphorus in jaggery support bone density and may ease joint pain.
Replace refined sugar 1:1 with jaggery powder in most recipes. Here are the best uses for each variety.
Most commercially available jaggery in India is made using chemical clarifying agents like sulphur dioxide (SO₂) and artificial colour (caramel or chemical dyes) to achieve a uniform golden appearance. Sulphur dioxide is a known allergen and respiratory irritant, and its presence in food grade jaggery is regulated but frequently violated by small-scale unregistered producers.
TR Organic Seeds Natural sources certified organic sugarcane jaggery from farms in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka using the traditional open-pan method. The sugarcane juice is clarified with natural agents (castor plant extract or okra extract), slow-cooked, and set without any sulphur compounds, anti-caking agents, or artificial colour.
Our Palm Jaggery (Karuppatti) is tapped from wild date palms and palmyra palms in Tamil Nadu – a dying art that produces an exceptionally mineral-rich sweetener with a distinctive smoky-caramel aroma valued in South Indian temple cooking and Ayurvedic preparations.
Jaggery is recognised in Ayurveda as a sattvic food (Sattvik Guda) – one that promotes clarity, digestion, and wellbeing when consumed in moderation after meals. Making the switch from refined sugar to organic jaggery is one of the easiest and most impactful dietary changes an Indian household can make.
