This slow, cold-press process preserves all of sesame's unique beneficial compounds — particularly sesamol and sesamin, which are exclusive to sesame and not found in any other oil.
Sesame oil has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 5,000 years. The Charaka Samhita (one of the foundational Ayurvedic texts) describes sesame oil as the king of oils — praising its ability to penetrate deeply into tissues for both internal and external healing.
Sesamol & Sesamin: These lignans (unique plant antioxidants) have been shown in multiple studies to reduce oxidative stress, support liver function, and exhibit anti-carcinogenic properties at the cellular level. They survive cold pressing but are destroyed by heat refining.
Oil Pulling: Ayurvedic oil pulling with sesame oil (Kavala) has been shown to reduce oral bacteria (specifically Streptococcus mutans), improve gum health, and reduce bad breath — with effects comparable to chlorhexidine mouthwash, according to a 2011 study in the Journal of Indian Society of Pedodontics.
